Local Attractions
There's lots to see and do in Hillsborough, NB! Below are just a few options. For more ideas, please visit The Village of Hillsborough website.
Victoriana Steeves Homestead Bed and Breakfast
This sprawling Carpenter Gothic residence was built in 1860 by Rev. John Hughes while he was a minister of the Hillsborough Baptist Church. In 1870, the house was taken over by Captain James Blight Sr., who was the then manager of the local gypsum quarry. The house then remained in the Blight family with ties to Albert County mining for the next century.
Since 1971 the present owners have worked to restore the spirit of Rev. Hughes' original design. The devotion they have applied to their task shines like a new coat of paint but penetrates much deeper. Each of the 12 rooms reflects a keen attention to historical detail and the grounds are groomed to perfection.
Located within walking distance to many attractions, including our Museum, you're sure to enjoy staying at this elegant historic home.

The New Brunswick Railway Museum
Most travelling tourists enjoy variety! So, as you enjoy nature's beauty on your trip along Route 114, between Moncton and Fundy National Park, why not take a break? Drop in to visit Hillsborough's New Brunswick Railway Museum where you'll view marvelously unique artefacts of a means of travelling in yesteryears!
Hillsborough is located in a unique geographical area, selected by the New Brunswick Division of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association to be the home of eastern Canada's primary railway museum. Why this site?
Hillsborough experienced a horse-drawn albertite railway and the Albert Manufacturing Company's narrow gauge gypsum railway before it was connected to New Brunwsick's ever-growing standard gauge railway system at Salisbury in 1877. This comunity is recognized as home to one of North America's first oil wells (1860s), as well as the mining of shale oil.
Come learn about railway construction, its operations, and their dedicated workers. The Museum's group of buildings highlights a multitude of railway artefacts and a large photo collection that celebrate the Province's railway history. Come view artefacts such as the ex-CNR locomotive #1009, a 4-6-0 built in 1912, one of only two steam locomotives in the province. As well, come view another unique artefact - Canada's only remaining double-ended snow plough, built in 1939 by the CNR.

Community Walking Trails and White Rock Recreational Area
There are a number of trails that are great for walking, jogging, and running in the area.
The first is a loop (with optional sub-loop) close to the Museum. It was sponsored by Ducks Unlimited and is a level grade, quiet, grass-and-dirt path that connects with Steeves Street around three duck ponds. It's about a 2km loop. The sub-loop is about half a km and passes through a more closed-in wooded area and over some wood footbridges.
The second loop is larger and hillier. It follows Steeves Street, a dirt road along the Petitcodiac River, and Gray's Island Road, which connects to Route 114 to bring you back to Steeves Street (be careful crossing to the opposite side of Rte. 114 where there are sidewalks). Watch for trucks along the dirt road from Steeves Street to Gray's Island and Route 114 as well. No matter which direction you go, you will encounter a hill at the beginning or end of this loop, as well as a small hill in the middle as the road climbs up onto the dike to get around Gray's Island.
Both of the above trails can be accessed by parking at a small dirt parking lot off of Steeves Street just past the Tourist Information Office.
The third is the Gray Brook Marsh Wildlife Habitat and Trails loop around another Ducks Unlimited wetland off of Golf Club Road. It is also about a half kilometer loop.
White Rock Recreational Area is primarily used for mountain biking, dirt biking, and ATVing. Parking is available near the intersection of Taylor Lane and Golf Club Road.
For more information, visit or contact the Hillsborough Tourist Information Office.
Hillsborough Golf Club
Welcome to one of New Brunswick's most scenic courses. Cut completely from the forest covering 220 acres, this 18 hole course offers a challenging but private round, as other players are not often visible.
Built alongside natural gypsum deposits, the course features a landscape of protruding white rock, elevated views, and rolling fairways. Three of the par 3s require a tee shot over water. The par 5s are long but can be reached with 2 solid shots.
Undulating greens provide an interesting and skill-testing putting surface. Signature par 3 holes include Number 17, with its covered bridge and rocky stream, and number 14, an elevated shot over quarry rock and tranquil water.
From a relaxed game with friends, to company tournaments, this golf club aims to promote fun.
